About me :-)

This is my personal site and is not affiliated with any companies I have or currently work for.  I will, in general, often be posting about technical information or solutions I have come across or created myself but this may not always be the case.  I do enjoy many things beyond the world of computers and those things may end up on this site from time to time.  At any rate, I hope what I post on here is useful to others and if not that is ok too 😉

I have successfully created the Recovery Partition with Recovery Partition Creator 3.7. I can use its features such as Find My Mac and FileVault.

But when I try to start up to Recovery HD by holding Command-R, I get to blank screen with circle logo. Have tried several times. The result is the same.

My mac is MBP 15″ Retina.

    Any Suggestion?

As long as it is the installer it should work. I think the mavericks one is called “Install OS X Mavericks.app”

It should work as long as you don’t have a core storage volume.

Hi, I’ve a hard drive, 1tb that’s two partitions now, one Snow Leopard for some apps I need, and the other is Mavericks. I wanted to create a recovery part ion in the Mavericks partition, would the fact that I have two partitions now impact things? I don’t want to loose either one. I just want to carve a little out of the Mavericks partition to make it’s recovery partition.
    Thanks in advance!

Multiple partitions should be ok. I have multiple partitions on another mac without a problem.

    Thanks!

Your script Recovery Partition Creator 3.8 helped me set up a recovery partition on El Capitan in minutes!

I just used Recovery Partition Creator 3.8 to install recovery partitions on a couple of USB drives, in order to be able to clone (via Super Duper) my computer’s internal drive to them, and make them both encrypted and bootable. Thanks!

I do have a question — my Mac, and the drives, are currently at Mountain Lion (to avoid surprises for other users in the family). I plan to update to El Capitan soon (it’s time …). Can I re-run RPC on the same drives but point to an El Cap installer, and have the OS and/or other things in the recovery partition updated to El Cap? Or if not, can you recommend a procedure that would accomplish the same goal?

    Thx again,
    — alex

It has been awhile but I think I did that in the past. Though I would not boot to the recovery partition and run any utils as they might be incompatible and cause an issue.

I have used your Recovery Partition Creator with El Capitan before and it has worked ok, but after a recent apple update to v 10.11.1 the software is reporting “NOT COMPATIBLE WTH THIS SOFTWARE VERSION”. I hope this information is of use, your software has been a life saver in the past.

    Hey Chris

Thank you many times for this tool, you saved me probably 4 days of reinstalling a bootcamp partition because csrutil was not available with online recovery mode ^^ and SIP blocked my backup

    I’m on OS X 10.11.5 El Capitan.
When I try to use “Recovery Partition Creator 4.0.1.app”, I get the following result: “The mainDrive variable is undefined” (“La variable mainDrive n’est pas définie”) and no installation is done.
I chose the correct disk and “Install OS X El Capitan.app”.
Is it possible that this is because I want to make this installation on the startup disk?
Note: The download gives me “Recovery Partition Creator 4.0.1.app” but the info window give me “4.0 – Thursday 5th May 2016 – 4:22 p.m.”
    Thank you

    Thank you very much…
But I still have the same problem with “Recovery Partition Creator 4.0.2.app” :
“The mainDrive variable is undefined” (“La variable mainDrive n’est pas définie”) and no installation is done.

I updated to 4.0.3 a few hours ago. Give that one a shot. If you are still having a problem let me know.

    Thank you for your involvement.
    Alas! Alas!
With 4.0.3 (Recovery Partition Creator 4.0.3), I still get the same warning: “The mainDrive variable is undefined” (“La variable mainDrive n’est pas définie”) and no installation is done.

Will be looking at the program next week. Seems Sierra introduced a number of changes that I need to look at.

      Thanks,

Hi, Both your 3.8 and 4.04 links to recovery partition creator on dropbox no longer work.
Do you have an updated link to both or can you direct email them to me via email attachment? I have a couple of machines with partitions of snow leopard, 10.11.6 and 10.15 and need a working recovery partition established to disable SIP for further customizations and of course recovery if needed. Thanks in advance. With the best of regards Alan
